You might think I wrote it wrong because it’s Google, but no, I’m not talking about the well-known website Google; I’m talking about Googol, the number equal to (10^{100}), that is, a 1 followed by one hundred 0s.
The Origin of the Googol Number
Googol doesn’t come from Google, but on the contrary, Google comes from Googol. So, where does Googol come from? The name “Googol” was invented in 1920 by Milton Sirotta, the 9-year-old nephew of the mathematician Edward Kasner, and the concept was expanded in Kasner’s book Mathematics and Imagination.
Googolplex
Just like Googol is (10^{100}), Googolplex is (10^{\text{Googol}}), but the concept of Googolplex doesn’t stop there, as there are many types of Googolplexes:
- Googolplex: (10^{10^{100}})
- Googolduplex: (10^{10^{10^{100}}})
- Googoltriplex: (10^{10^{10^{10^{100}}}} )
- Googolquadriplex: (10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{100}}}}})
- Googolquintiplex: (10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{100}}}}}} )
- Googolsextiplex: (10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{100}}}}}}})
- Googolseptiplex: (10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{100}}}}}}}})
- Googoloctiplex: (10^{(10^{9})^{100}})
- Googolnoniplex: (10^{(10^{10})^{100}})
More Googol
As some people get really creative, we can see there are many derivations of Googol and Googolplex:
- Googolchime: (10^{1000})
- Googoltoll: (10^{10000})
- Googolgong: (10^{100000})
- Googolbong: (10^{10^{8}})
- Googolthrong: (10^{10^{11}})
- Googolplexichime: (10^{10^{1000}})
- Googolplexitoll: (10^{10^{10000}})
- Googolplexigong: (10^{10^{100000}})
- Googolplexibong: (10^{10^{10^{8}}})
- Googolplexithrong: (10^{10^{10^{11}}})
Too Much Googol
Now, this seems a bit excessive…
- Googoldeciplex: ((10^{11})^{100})
- Googolvigintiplex: ((10^{21})^{100})
- Googolquinquagintiplex: ((10^{51})^{100})
- Googolcentiplex: ((10^{101})^{100})
- Googolmegaplex: ((10^{1000001})^{100})
- Googolgigaplex: ((10^{10^{9}+1})^{100})
- Googolpetaplex: ((10^{10^{15}+1})^{100})
- Googolstack: (10^{10^{10^{100}}})
- Googoldex: ((10^{10^{100}})^{100})
- Googolplexidex: ((10^{10^{10^{100}}})^{100})
- Googolduplexidex: (10^{10^{10^{10^{100}}}}^{100})
- Googoltriplexidex: (10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{100}}}}}}^{100})
- Googolquadriplexidex: (10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{100}}}}}}^{100})
- Googolquintiplexidex: (10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{100}}}}}}}}^{100})
- Googolsextiplexidex: (10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{100}}}}}}}}^{100})
- Googolseptiplexidex: (10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{10^{100}}}}}}}}}^{100})
- Googoloctiplexidex: (10^{(10^{(10^{9})^{100}})})
- Googolnoniplexidex: (10^{(10^{(10^{10})^{100}})})
- Googoldeciplexidex: (10^{(10^{(10^{11})^{100}})})
- Googoldudex: (10^{10^{10^{100}}})
- Googolplexidudex: (10^{10^{10^{10^{100}}}}^{100})
Conclusion
- Google comes from something invented by a 9-year-old boy.
- Googol is excessive.
- Googoloogol.
